Freelance Copy Editor for Academic & Nonfiction Books

I’m Glen Hoffmann, a Toronto-based copy editor specializing in scholarly and trade nonfiction, with particular expertise in philosophy and the humanities.

I work with authors, publishers, and organizations to prepare complex manuscripts and other written material for publication. My editing focuses on clarity, accuracy, correctness, and consistency while preserving the author’s voice and intent. I regularly work on book-length manuscripts and scholarly material, including projects for university presses and academic series.

I hold a BA and MA in philosophy from Western University and a PhD in philosophy from the University of Toronto. I taught philosophy for ten years at Toronto Metropolitan University and York University before transitioning fully into editing. I have also completed the Copy Editing for Books, Journals and Reports course at Toronto Metropolitan University.

My academic background gives me a special appreciation for complex, argument-driven writing and for the importance of improving clarity without sacrificing nuance.
