Freelance Copy Editor for Academic & Nonfiction Books

Glen Hoffmann, PhD (Philosophy)

Editing for Scholarly & Trade Nonfiction

I’m Glen Hoffmann, a Toronto-based copy editor specializing in scholarly nonfiction, particularly in philosophy and the humanities.

I work with authors, publishers, and organizations to bring complex ideas into clear, precise, and publishable form. My editing focuses on clarity, accuracy, structure, and consistency while preserving the author’s voice and intent. I have extensive experience working on book-length manuscripts and scholarly material, including projects for university presses and academic series.

My background includes editing and writing a wide range of scholarly and professional content, from academic articles and books to web content, case studies, and white papers, as well as internal and client-facing communications.

I hold a B.A. and M.A. in philosophy from Western University and a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Toronto. I taught philosophy for ten years at Toronto Metropolitan University and York University before transitioning fully into editing. I have also completed the Copy Editing for Books, Journals and Reports course at Toronto Metropolitan University.

You can also find me on LinkedIn and in the Editors Canada Online Directory of Editors.
