Editing

Approach & Experience

Good editing strengthens clarity, structure, consistency, and readability while preserving the distinctive voice of a manuscript. I work with university, independent, and trade publishers, as well as nonfiction authors, on scholarly, research-intensive, and accessible nonfiction projects.

My work focuses particularly on long-form nonfiction, including philosophy and the humanities, memoir and biography, cultural criticism, educational publishing, and interdisciplinary writing. I regularly edit book-length manuscripts requiring close attention to style, argumentation, references, structure, and tone.

Editorial Approach

I approach editing as a collaborative process. My goal is not to flatten or standardize a manuscript, but to help authors communicate ideas more clearly, coherently, and effectively.

Depending on the project, this may involve:

  • Improving clarity and readability

  • Refining sentence structure and transitions

  • Ensuring consistency in style and terminology

  • Editing notes, references, and bibliographies

  • Querying ambiguities or factual inconsistencies

  • Helping maintain coherence across long manuscripts

I pay particular attention to preserving authorial voice while strengthening precision, flow, and stylistic consistency.

Scholarly & Nonfiction Editing

I work on both scholarly and general nonfiction projects, with particular experience in philosophy, interdisciplinary humanities, research-intensive nonfiction, and long-form manuscript editing.

My scholarly editing work includes Chicago-style notes and bibliographies, scholarly book series, and argument-driven writing requiring conceptual precision, consistency, and close attention to structure and references.

I also edit nonfiction intended for broader readerships, including memoir and biography, educational publishing, cultural and literary nonfiction, and accessible writing about complex ideas and subjects.
